Comments - Fantastic triptych illustrating "The Igagoye Revenge," also known as "Kazuma's Revenge." The hero, Shizuma, enlists the help of the swordsman Masayemon to avenge his father's death, waiting to attack the murderer Matagoro as he travels. In the center Masayemon wields two swords, sending his enemies tumbling to the ground and flying head over heels. At upper left, the angry villain Kawai Matagoro fires an arrow from astride his horse, the missile sliced in half by Masayemon's sword. A great depiction of the surprise attack, with a handsome landscape setting and great detail in the expressive faces. A terrific scene from this famous tale of honor.
