Series; The Popularity of the Upstairs (Fringe) Dressing Room
The Popularity of the Upstairs (Fringe) Dressing Room - Terrific kabuki portrait from a rarely seen Kunichika series depicting actors backstage in their upstairs dressing rooms. Each actor is shown through the wooden grid of a window, with shoji panels on either side, often featuring attendants seen in silhouette helping the actor with his costume or wig. Beautifully drawn and detailed, the colorful figures contrasting attractively with the softly shaded shoji panels and shadows. A terrific kabuki series, in an interesting and unusual format, and a great choice for a collector.
