Series; Twelve Hours in the Modern World

The Hour of the Dragon, 1870 - Charming portrait of a beauty climbing the stairs at the Hour of the Dragon, which corresponds to 8 am to 10 am. She wears a deep blue kimono shaded to soft pink with a border of red blossoms, trimmed in purple over a red under robe. A young attendant follows behind her, smiling as she looks up. In the inset above, a few beauties are gathered beneath a blossoming cherry tree in the Yoshiwara, one tying a poem slip to a branch as a few men walking past turn to watch. The title cartouche takes the form of a clock at upper right. An attractive design with lively color and embossing on the white kimono collar. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
