Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Young Samurai, 1864

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a young samurai standing along the bank of a river, looking back over his shoulder with a slight grimace. His blue kimono featuring a bold white pattern, worn over a gray robe with a brick pattern and a red under robe. His two swords are at his side, but he also has a shakuhachi flute tucked at his back, something usually seen with otokodate or street knights rather than samurai. A few birds fly through the sky as evening falls, and a lumberyard can be seen on the opposite shore at upper right. A nice design.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small tear at edge, stitching holes at side, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and creasing, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
