Series; Manga Paintings of Sixty Years of History Since the Opening of the Country, 1927

Manga Paintings of Sixty Years of History Since the Opening of the Country - Rare original painting from a series illustrating the sixty years of modern Japanese history from 1868 to 1927. Produced in 1927, the series features 50 original manga paintings, with 25 different artists each contributing two designs to the series. The subjects depict national events and famous persons, along with technological innovations such as railways, airplanes, and radio, in a comic style. Organized and distributed by Chuo Bijutsu Kyokai, the paintings were sold by subscription. The Honolulu (Hawaii) Museum of Art has a complete series in its collection. A fascinating look at the modernization of Japan, and a great collector's item.

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Painted on paper mounted to thin board. Some paintings have a few spots or marks. Please see photos for details. Generally in good to nice condition overall.
