Seven Street Knights, 1889

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene featuring seven otokodate or street knights dressed in matching purple kimono tied with striped obi. The men exchange wary glances at each other, some frowning angrily. Each has a white towel draped over his shoulder or wrapped around his neck. Text runs across the background, which is shaded from red to white to green. The actors in the left panel are Nakamura Shikan IV and Ichikawa Sadanji. The center panel features Ichikawa Danjuro IX and Onoe Kikugoro V. The right panel includes Ichikawa Kodanji V, Ichikawa Gonjuro I, and Nakamura Fukusuke. An interesting, colorful design.

Image Size - 14" x 27 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical folds. Slight soiling, a few small marks. Please see photos for details.
