Boating in the Chinese Style, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Lovely image of two beauties enjoying a boat ride, their two young attendants manning an oar and boat pole as they gently glide along the water. Their ornate boat is beautifully decorated with a dragon along the side and a sacred jewel and red flames on the curved prow. The girls wear exotic Chinese robes trimmed with ruffles, and elegant hair ornaments. At left, Prince Genji and a couple of women watch from a verandah overlooking the lake, wisteria hanging from a trellis out over the water. Above, with footbridges connect small islands. A charming scene with beautiful detail and attractive color. Would make a handsome display.
