Nakamura Shikan IV as Yokozo, 1861

Comments - Great portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as Yokozo in the play "Honcho Nijushi Ko," a drama about two brothers quarreling over who will inherit their dead father's secret books of battlefield strategy, which have been buried in a bamboo grove. Yokozo is shown here struggling with his brother as the two dig for the buried chest in the middle of winter. He grimaces as a shovel is thrust into his chest, gripping his own shovel behind his head. A bold image.

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/8"
