Series; True Sketches of Famous Places in Japan, circa 1877

True Sketches of Famous Places in Japan - Although titled "True Sketches of Famous Places in Japan," many of the views in Suzuki Toshimoto's circa 1877 series are of the Kansai region around Osaka, his birthplace. Each print features two chuban-sized scenes framed by a decorative light rust colored border with the series title in a yellow band across the top of the page. Several designs show the influence of Kiyochika's attention to light and shadow, including many atmospheric night scenes. A rarely seen Meiji series that is not well documented.
