Frightened Beauty and Samurai, 1855

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a frightened beauty cowering behind her sleeve, prevented from walking away by the pipe held down on the hem of her robe by a seated samurai. He looks up with an angry frown, his other head resting atop a black lacquer armrest. Panels lining the back of the room are decorated with peony blossoms, with a rolled up blind above. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 19 1/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two attached panels. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
