Series; Twelve Months of Customs and Manners in Edo

First Month: Celebrating the New Year, 1890 - Attractive interior scene of beauties and young children celebrating the New Year holiday. At center, a man dances about holding a small hand drum, hopping on one foot, much to the amusement of the children watching. Another man in court dress moves gracefully at right, waving a folding fan. The two women beside him carry in a tray of sake cups and a large rice cake, while the beauty at center a clutches a decorative paddle for a popular game similar to badminton. A bonsai plum tree in a blue ceramic pot rests on a low shelf, next to a red offering tray with a gift on top. A boy at the far left holds a kite. A charming subject with wonderful color and detail in the clothing and furnishings, including burnishing on the black kimono at right.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small losses at edges, and holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few small marks. Please see photos for details.
