Elderly Warrior Ikyu

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of the elderly warrior Ikyu from the tale of Sukeroku. Both Ikyu and his rival, the young street knight Sukeroku, were in love with the famous courtesan Agemaki. Here, Ikyu grimaces angrily, gripping his sword beneath the voluminous sleeve of his cloud patterned coat. His long white hair and beard fall over his shoulders and chest, the hair delicately embossed. The samurai creates an imposing figure against the blue evening sky, framed by a flowering cherry tree. A handsome image.
