Fireworks at the Ryogoku River Festival

Comments - Fantastic Chikanobu triptych depicting beauties enjoying the fireworks display at the Ryogoku River Festival from pleasure boats on the water. The ship at right is decorated with red paper lanterns and purple drapery, with red floral carpeting inside. A beauty stands in the prow holding her daughter's hand, the woman standing next to her gesturing with her hand. In the boat at left, a beauty trails her handkerchief in the water below, her sleeve caught between her teeth to keep it from getting wet. A beautiful red pinwheel explodes on the horizon, with a shower of orange sparks falling overhead. A beautiful composition with wonderful detail in the elegant kimono fabrics and construction of the boats. A lovely design embellished with touches of burnishing and embossing. A striking illustration of this favorite summer pastime.
