Yoshitsune's Eight Boat Leap at the Battle of Yashima, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic triptych of Yoshitsune executing his legendary "eight boat leap" at Dan-no-ura during the Battle of Yashima, crouching at top center as he flies through the air, seemingly weightless. Just below him to the right, an enemy watches him sail overhead with an angry grimace, out of reach of his sword. To the left of him, Yoshitsune's loyal retainer Benkei lifts an attacker above his head. In the magnificent Imperial Barge at upper right, the young Taira Emperor Antoku watches from the shoulder of his grandmother. Fighting continues on the smaller boats all around as opponents clash with swords and polearms, the vessels bobbing on the undulating waves. An incredible image, full of energy and excitement, with amazing detail. A great depiction of this famous naval battle and fine choice for a samurai enthusiast.
