Nakamura Utaemon IV as a Lion, 1847 - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Utaemon IV as a white lion dancer in the play "Shiki utsushi tosae no futsutsuka," gripping a sword in one hand and a rope in the other. He wears a red vest over a dark blue patterned kimono tucked into with pants decorated with stylized peony motifs, the flower associated with lions. He wears a long white wig topped with a peony blossom. Beautifully detailed with embossing on the white wig. A terrific design.
