Comments - Interesting kabuki triptych of eight commoners gathered together, the fellow at bottom center looking up with an angry grimace as he throws his hand out at his side. The man beside him at lower right begins to draw his sword as he watches his companion closely. His hair is cut short in the latest Meiji style, and he has an upper body tattoo of a waterfall and red flowers. The commoner at far right grips an enormous knife upright. The fellow at lower left has a striking upper body tattoo of a dragon and peony blossoms. An intriguing image with the large figures set off by the deep red background. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black collars and cloth embossed on the dotted headscarf at upper right.
