Series; Portraits of the Faithful Samurai of True Loyalty, 1853

Yato Yomoshichi Norikane - Great portrait of the samurai Yato Yomoshichi Norikane from a rarely seen Kuniyoshi series depicting the famous 47 ronin. He holds up a lamp with a sober expression, his eyes wide as he peers cautiously into the darkness. He wears the ronin's traditional black and white dogtooth bordered robe over a suit of armor, and a black cloth headdress, his other hand gripping his sword. Beautifully detailed with delicate cloth embossing on the paper shade of the lamp, handsome wood grain impression in the background, and in incredibly fine line work in the hair and eyelashes. We've only seen three or four designs from this series, and this is the first time we've offered this subject.
