Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as Hida no kami Masakiyo, 1861

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as Hida no kami Masakiyo, looking up with a worried frown, one hand gripping the hilt of his sword. He wears a striking red-orange kamishimo with fierce dragons on it over a black kimono with a beautiful burnished geometric print, his circular crest appearing on his shoulders and sleeves. The voluminous figure fills the frame, with a few birds fluttering in the night sky above. A bold, expressive figure, detailed with light embossing on the white kimono collar and handsome wood grain impression in the sky.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 5/8" + left margin as shown
