Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Flowers of the East, 1878

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Empress arriving to join the Emperor to greet waiting dignitaries. At right, she is escorted into the room by several ladies-in-waiting, wearing a purple outer kimono patterned with clouds and unusual animal motifs in circular medallions. The Emperor wears a military dress uniform, an attendant holding his plumed cap on a purple silk cloth. Men are seated along the edges of the room beyond, and a carriage can be seen in the courtyard at right. An interesting scene, nicely detailed with extensive embossing on the white robes.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Very slight soiling, paper slightly curled. Please see photos for details.
