Comments - Great triptych showing the famous Shizuka gozen performing as a shirabyoshi dancer before the Shogun Yoritomo. Lady Shizuka was the mistress of Minamoto no Yoritomo's brother Yoshitsune, with whom he was feuding. While Yoshitsune was in hiding, the shogun sent for Shizuka gozen to have her dance for him at the famous shrine at Tsurugaoka, hoping to trick her into revealing Yoshitsune's whereabouts, but she kept his secret. Known for her beauty and dancing skill, Lady Shizuka waves her fan gracefully before the noblemen, accompanied by musicians at right playing drums and flute. The shogun sits on a platform at upper left, a folding screen patterned with blossoming plum trees behind him. A handsome design with expressive figures, nicely detailed.
