Tametomo Sinking an Enemy Ship with a Single Arrow, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Great illustration of the great archer Minamoto no Tametomo (also known as Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo) sinking the leading ship of his enemy Mochimitsu's fleet with a single arrow. He stands near the top of the hill at right with his bow in hand as his retainers look on, gesturing excitedly. At left, a huge arrow has pierced the side of a ship that founders and sinks beneath the undulating waves. In the center, another boat has turned over on its side and men fall into the water below. A pine tree frames the view at right with clouds bordering the bottom of the scene. A handsome depiction of this legendary feat. Includes a dusting of mica over the rocks at lower right.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 29 7/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Losses at corners and edges, tear at edge, holes, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
