Comments - Dramatic scene of an Abe clan samurai riding his horse through the rising waters of a flood. With a tight-lipped frown and a determined expression, he raises his riding crop high above his head. He wears a striking dragon patterned vest over a green brocade kimono, a white sash tied around his forehead. At left, a young man holds onto the horse's tail with a terrified look on his face, his long hair falling over his shoulders. At right, a beauty clings to a willow tree with one arm, the peak of a thatched roof visible above the undulating waves. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji I, Nakamura Shikan IV as Sawamura Tossho II. A bold design with large expressive figures and fine bokashi shading in the darkening sky.
