Comments - Interesting kabuki scene showing two men in an angry confrontation near a bridge. The man at left leans forward aggressively with a tight-lipped frown. He wears a striking black kimono with a burnished check pattern, pine branches, and raindrops. The fellow at right glares back at him, his hair cropped short. The beauty in the center tries to intervene, smiling and holding her hand out in a stopping gesture. Rendered in bold calligraphic strokes on a stitched curtain, a bridge arches across the background and a tree rises at right. A terrific design with large figures and an unusual setting.
