Enjoying Plum Blossoms in the Spring Mist, 1858

Comments - Beautiful scene of two beauties and a young man enjoying the plum blossoms at night. At right, Lady Murasaki smiles as she looks back over her shoulder, a fan in hand. She wears an outer robe with a design of chrysanthemums and streams over a red kimono and under robe, the white trim detailed with an embossed pattern. Her yellow obi is also lightly embossed. In the center, Kumoi-no-jo grins back at her, while the courtesan Akogi watches from the left. Her red kimono features a lion and peony blossoms. White blossoms and buds dot the branches of the ancient tree against the night sky. A lovely design.
