Spring Stroll, 1854

Comments - Attractive scene of Prince Genji and his companions enjoying a stroll in springtime. The young nobleman smiles at the courtesan at right as a dog prowls around his legs. The beauty leans back against the railing of a bamboo garden fence that encloses flowering cherry trees and blossoming shrubs. She wears a black outer kimono patterned with Otsu-e figures, traditional folk paintings sold to travelers during the Edo era in Otsu. A charming design, nicely detailed.
