Beauty with a Sword, 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the beauty Tamaori holding a sword high above her head as a kneeling monk offers her what looks like a flattened helmet. At left, a nobleman holds out a cloth-wrapped package, a sober expression on his face. The monk glares at him angrily, his brows furrowed. A blossoming cherry tree frames the entrance to a caved where a lacquer table holds scrolls, with a hanging scroll above. Expressive figures in an unusual setting, nicely detailed with embossing on the beauty's kimono.
