The 47 Ronin, Act 7: The Ichiriki Teahouse, 1827 - Great kabuki scene illustrating Act 7 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the famous drama about the 47 ronin. Here, Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader of the ronin, is angry to find the courtesan Okaru using a mirror to spy on him as he reads a secret message about the vendetta. Below the verandah one of Moronao's spies named Kudayu examines the letter closely, his eyes wide with alarm. From left, the actors are Kataoka Nizaemon VII, Bando Mitsugoro III, and Iwai Kumesaburo II. A terrific image with a wonderfully detailed setting including a stone water basin with a dipper resting atop it and a lantern hanging from a pine tree.
