Hour of the Hare, 1859 - Handsome scene of Mitsuuji, the Country Genji, preparing to leave at the Hour of the Hare, which corresponds to 6 to 8 am. A woman helps him on with his coat as he turns to smile wistfully at his sweetheart, who bows respectfully on the floor behind him. The shy beauty holds her sleeve to her mouth as she looks down, dressed in a lovely kimono patterned with cherry blossoms and pillows. A folding screen behind her provides privacy for a bed piled with quilts, with a large lamp resting on the floor nearby. Another attendant holds a lantern for the young man at left. An attractive design with wonderful detail in the elegant household setting and furnishings, including embossing in the white kimono trim.
