Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Ishikawa Goemon, 1851

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene from the play "Konoshita Soga Megumi no Masagoji" of the robber Ishikawa Goemon about to be boiled alive in the bubbling pot at lower right. After attempting to kill the powerful lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Goemon was sentenced to death by boiling, along with his child. Here, he holds his son Goroichi under his arm with an anguished expression as smoke and steam rises from the cauldron, desperate to save the boy. A bold image featuring Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Goemon and Seki Kasuke at Goroichi.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight soiling, a few light creases. Please see photos for details.
