Comments - Lovely spring scene of the Meiji Empress and ladies of the palace on an outing to view the cherry blossoms along the Sumida River. The Empress stands in the center, holding a folding fan behind her head, two attendants kneeling at her side. One carries an ornate crown topped with a phoenix figurine. At left, a beauty climbs up the embankment with a black lacquer tobacco box, her upper body just visible. Several boats move up and down the river, and the flowering cherry trees frame the view with Mt. Fuji visible in the distance at upper left. A charming design, nicely detailed with a burnished pattern on the black kimono and faint embossing on the white kimono.
