Beauty in a Blue Kimono

Segawa Tsuyahisa - Not much is known about the artist Segawa Tsuyahisa, who also used the name Enkyu. He was born in Tokyo and studied painting with Nishiyama Suisho in Kyoto. Active circa 1920s - 1930s, Tsuyahisa is known primarily for his paintings of beautiful women, but he also created a few woodblocks of bijin. His willowy women are languid and graceful, with rather dreamy expressions, drawn with delicate, flowing line work. Prints by Tsuyahisa are rarely seen on the market, and are a nice choice for a collector of shin-hanga beauties.
