Comments - Fantastic scene of Nitta Yoshisada and his men attacking the Hojo forces at Kamakura in 1333 (not 1332, as the title reads). Unable to penetrate the heavily guarded mountain passes into Kamakura, Nitta led his men around the Inamuragasaki promontory. Faced by Hojo ships if they tried to sail into the city, Nitta threw his sword into the sea as an offering to the sun goddess, and the water receded, allowing them to enter along the shore. Nitta is shown at left on a dappled horse, directing his troops with a tasseled command baton. At left, an enemy gallops ahead waving a sword with a damaged blade above his head, grimacing angrily. A samurai goes tumbling headfirst before him, his sword flying through the air. A lively action scene with a dramatic composition, a large pine tree framing a view of the water beyond.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels. Slight thinning along horizontal centerfold, a few small losses at edges and holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details.
