Series; The Ten Great Pupils of the Haikai Poet Basho, circa 1843

The Ten Great Pupils of the Haikai Poet Basho - Charming design from a rarely seen Kunisada series pairing with poems by students of Basho, the most famous Edo era poet in Japan. Each image beauties features a young woman in a scene from daily life, set against a background of scattered dots with a band of softly shaded clouds across the top of the page. The verse appears in a yellow fan-shaped cartouche at upper left. An attractive bijin series by Kunisada.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Wormholes, mostly at edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling. Some prints have a few creases. Please see photos for details.
