Series; A Newly Published Set of Shadow Pictures, 1867

A Newly Published Set of Shadow Pictures - Kuniteru II's rarely seen 1867 series "A Newly Publisher Set of Shadow Pictures" features profile portraits of actors in silhouette in shaped insets against a shoji panel. The portraits are carefully drawn with attention to the individual features and hairstyles, with some figures drinking from cups and one applying makeup with a brush. Each print includes three actors, with a fluttering poem slip at upper right serving as the series title. A small crest in red accompanies each figure. An interesting and unusual format.

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/2" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. Small loss at corner, a few small holes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and spotting, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
