Original Kuniaki II (1835 - 1888) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ceremony at the Imperial Palace, 1877

Comments - Interesting scene of a ceremony taking place at the Imperial Palace. A prince in military dress sits on a chair at right, with a princess holding a folding fan in the center. At upper right, a lady-in-waiting carries a young child wrapped in a red robe. At bottom center, a low table has a scene of the elderly couple Jo and Uba with the Takasago Pine, symbols of fidelity and long life, while long-handled sake servers rest on the carpeted floor nearby. At left, a beauty carries in a tray piled with sweets and topped with a pine sprig. An attractive design with wonderful detail in the elegant interior setting, and fine embossed detail on the white kimono collars.
