New Year's Kabuki Portraits - Interesting portrait from a Yoshitsuya series featuring kabuki actors carrying branches decorated with poem slips and lucky objects for the New Year's holiday. The decorations include money, small targets pierced with arrows, a magic mallet that shakes out treasure, and turnips, along with the takaramono or precious things, such as a raincoat that allows the wearer to fly or a hat that makes the wearer invisible. First published in the Edo era, this print is from a smaller format Meiji era edition that includes a border. Nicely colored and detailed.
