May

Series; Twelve Months in Modern Times, 1891

May - Terrific scene of an outing to the Kameido Tenjin Shrine in spring. Two beauties and their children admire the view from a verandah beneath a trellis covered with beautiful purple wisteria blossoms. The standing woman breaks off a flower, offering it to the child standing on her mother's lap below, who reaches for it eagerly. A small girl looks over the railing at left, watching for koi fish. The famous Half Moon bridge leads to one of the shrine buildings in the background. The inset at upper left features a carp banner for Boys' Day. A lovely design, wonderfully detailed and colored.
