Sawamura Sojuro V as Yoshida Matsuwakamaru, 1847

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Sawamura Sojuro V as Yoshida Matsuwakamaru, whose family had to give up its land after losing a precious scroll entrusted to them. He has been searching for the scroll ever since, and has finally located it. Here, the young samurai cradles the scroll to his chest, looking back over his shoulder with a suspicious frown. A border of clouds separates the figure from a spring landscape of a grassy slop dotted with blossoming cherry trees. An attractive design with an expressive figure.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9" + top margin as shown
