Meiji Emperor on a Rooster Boat, 1883

Comments - Fantastic triptych of the Meiji Emperor and ladies of the court aboard a magnificent boat with a rooster at the prow. The emperor stands in front of the cabin, dressed in an elegant military uniform and plumed hat. Two golden dragons top the colorful ship, which is decorated with a row of purple chrysanthemums along the edge. Blossoming cherry trees frame the scene overhead and dot the opposite shore. A great historical image with lively color and attractive detail. Includes burnishing on the Emperor's black uniform and the black trim on the boat.
