Wife of Tokugawa Ienari, No. 11 - Charming design of Tadako, the wife of Tokugawa Ienari, traveling in an elaborate palanquin with three attendants pausing to look in at her. The young beauty wears sumptuous robes, and the palanquin is fitted with an elegant lacquer stand and beautiful paintings. The hollyhock mon or crest of the Tokugawa Clan appears on the roof of the palanquin. Wonderful detail in this lovely subject, including embossing in the white kimono collar and an orange pigment on the umbrella that has oxidized to a dark tone.
