Prospering Theater District, circa 1839 - 1842 - Terrific scene of the bustling Nichomachi theater district, the sky softly shaded as the sun begins to set. The street is packed with patrons, servants, and porters, hurrying to and from performances and delivering goods. Portraits of actors in their latest roles hang above the theater at left, with blue and white banners and red paper lanterns lining the road. A lively, wonderfully detailed image capturing the noisy crowds of this popular area. A fascinating choice for a kabuki enthusiast.
