The Seventh Month (Fumizuki): Ichikawa Ebizo V as Saito Tarozaemon and Onoe Baiko IV as Nagai's Wife, Hanazono, 1854 - Handsome kabuki double portrait featuring Ichikawa Ebizo V as Saito Tarozaemon and Onoe Baiko IV as Hanazono, the wife of Nagai. The elderly samurai grimaces unhappily as he looks over his shoulder, wearing a black kamishimo over a colorful print kimono and tall black court cap. The beauty Hanazono stares ahead with a worried expression, her mouth agape as she clutches at her chrysanthemum print robe. Elegant lanterns decorated with red tassels frame the night sky overhead. A bold image with extensive burnishing on the black robe and cap, and fine embossing on the white kimono collar, white hair, and the lanterns. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
