A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Second National Industrial Exposition, 1881 - Terrific illustration of the Second National Industrial Exposition held in 1881 in Ueno Park. The enormous Shojo Fountain dominates the garden, with water splashing from an urn on the backs of colorful figures into a large scalloped basin. The Meiji Emperor stands among a group of palace ladies-in-waiting at right, wearing a military dress uniform and plumed hat. The elegant brick Fine Arts Museum building fills the background at right, and a blossoming cherry tree frames the scene at left. An intriguing look at this historic event, with lively color and wonderful detail, including burnishing on the black kimono in the center. The first time we've offered this Chikanobu design.
