A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Court Ladies Inspecting Rare Objects, 1881 - Intriguing image of court ladies inspecting a display of rare objects, some in glass cases. At right, a beauty points to a standing screen with a splashing wave design, a large vase painted with koi fish on the cloth-draped table behind her. Several women are gathered in the center in front of a tiered stand featuring vases and jars, topped with a flowering cherry branch in a tall container. At far left, the Meiji Emperor enters the room with two attendants. This activity may be taking place at the Second National Industrial Exposition, but we are not sure. A fascinating subject, wonderfully detailed and vibrantly colored.

Image Size - 13" x 26 3/4"
