Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Prince Genji outside a Garden Gate, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Attractive image of Prince Genji pausing outside a garden gate on a spring evening. He pauses next to a brushwood fence, looking up from a letter and smiling at his companion who crouches at right. The beauty between them carries a lantern and holds one end of her brocade obi under her arm. In the center, an elegantly dressed young girl tugs at the nobleman's hand, urging him to come into the courtyard. A blossoming cherry tree frames the night sky, and petals drift down over the scene. A charming image, nicely detailed and shaded.
