A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Bando Shuka I as Otoki, 1852 - Terrific kabuki double portrait from the play "Meiyo jinsei roku" of Bando Shuka I as Otoki, the wife of Onio Shinzaemon, and her son, Shinkichi. She bites nervously on a cloth as she looks up with sly expression, her eyes narrowed with suspicion. With her other hand she cradles her child's chin, the boy watching her with an eager smile. She wears a black kimono patterned with colorful blossoms and grasses, with purple floral insets over the shoulders. Shinkichi pats her leg reassuringly, his own small hand taking hold of hers. A handsome design with large figures and fine detail in the hair and faces.
