A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Sarutahiko and Tea House Woman, 1847 - Interesting portrait of a beauty in the guise of the Shinto deity Sarutahiko. She wears a brocade tunic over full pants with geometric patterns and dragon motifs, and an elegant headdress. A mask of Sarutahiko with long white hair and beard hangs from around her neck, and she balances upon tall geta sandals with a single "tooth" rather than the usual two. At upper right beyond a border of clouds, a beauty identified as a "tea house woman" kneels beneath a blossoming cherry tree, a fan in one hand and a red apron tied around her waist. An intriguing design.
