Yoshiwara

Comments - Lovely portrait of a courtesan wearing a striking outer kimono decorated with a lion dancer's headdress composed of a peony blossom atop a folding fan with bells and a red wig. Her obi features a lion at the base of a rushing waterfall. The fan-shaped inset above shows the main street of the Yoshiwara district in springtime, with blossoming cherry trees in the center of the boulevard. A charming design from this rarely seen collaborative series, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar.
