Comments - Dramatic scene of the beauty Kasane, who is being pursued by her lover, the disgraced samurai Yoemon. The warrior has just realized that Kasane is the daughter of a man he killed many years ago, and she has been possessed by her father's vengeful spirit. He attacks her with a sickle, which can be seen curving under her arm at lower left, pulling her off balance. She looks back at him with an evil grin, intent on achieving vengeance. Her long hair is pulled back into a thick ponytail, which flowers over her shoulders and back. One sleeve of her brown outer kimono has been pushed down to the waist, revealing an under robe made of a colorful patchwork of fabrics, trimmed with a deep blue collar. A great depiction from this classic kabuki play, nicely detailed.
