Taking Shelter from the Rain in a Sudden Shower, 1854

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of people taking shelter beneath a tree from a sudden rain shower. The scarred young man Mukokizu no Yosa shares an umbrella with his sweetheart, the beauty Yokogushi no Otomi, who bites anxiously on a handkerchief. Below, Wakato Hatsuemon runs for cover, holding his hands to his ears to block out the thunder, an alarmed expression on his face. The actors are Arashi Kichisaburo III as Wakato Hatsuemon, Onoe Baiko IV as Otomi, and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Yosa. An interesting design.
